The PVC plastics processing enterprises always say that lubricant is one additive to improve the polymer processing. The main lubricants are polyethylene wax, stearic acid, zinc stearate and so on.
The main application of lubricant is reducing the internal friction among materials and processing machinery in the process, in order to improve refinery processing and performance. Excellent lubricant has good dispersion, and compatibility with polymers and thermal stability and other characteristics. There are two kinds of lubricants in the system are very similar. These are zinc stearate and stearic acid. Is there any difference between these two lubricants?
The main differences between zinc stearate and stearic acid are following:
(1) Structural difference: zinc stearate is an organic salt compound of stearic acid and zinc element, but stearic acid is undoubtedly acid;
(2) Using effect difference: both zinc stearate and stearic acid can increase melt body flow rate in PVC plastic processing process, but effect of stearic acid is small, and even its dosage increase, its effect on melt body flow rate will no longer increase. But zinc stearate is different, its effect on increasing flow rate is significantly, and with its dosage increased, melt body flow rate increased, but when dosage is greater than 0.5% , melt body flow rate will no longer change.
(3) Both the addition of zinc stearate and stearic acid effect on the properties of PVC processing blends, reduce the friction coefficient , and friction coefficient of stearic acid is lower than zinc stearate. Although both play the role of outside lubrication, but external lubrication of stearic acid is stronger than zinc stearate.
